Orvis Fly Fishing & Wingshooting Schools

Orvis Fly Fishing & Wingshooting Schools

  Orvis Fly Fishing Schools
Whether you choose to pursue the art of fly fishing on small streams or big rivers, bass lakes or ocean flats, there's an Orvis School to show you everything you need to know. Our schools are the oldest in the country and our instructors have the knowledge and experience to introduce you to this great pastime.

You'll learn:
• Casting techniques
• Essential knots
• How to choose your gear and tackle
• Stream entomology
• Proper fly selection
• How to read water
• How to play, land, and safely release fish

Orvis Wingshooting Schools
Based on the English Churchill method, our instinctive approach to shotgunning offers both novice and seasoned veterans a complete shooting system applicable to upland hunting, waterfowling, or sporting clays.

Students are grouped according to their levels of ability and experience. By doing this, we can give all our students a sensible starting point and help them progress through the various clay target venues with very positive results.

The building blocks of the Orvis program include stance and footwork, gun handling, swing, visual concentration, proper gun mounting, and correct shotgun fit. These fundamentals are ingrained through practice, practice, and more practice, as hundreds of shells are fired by each student with an instructor analyzing every shot.

Although actual shooting comprises the bulk of the schools, students also participate in essential instruction on shotgun safety. In addition, each student receives a complimentary gun fitting to establish and record individual stock dimensions.
